While Luke Parker’s midfield brilliance and Gary Rohan’s four goal haul weren’t quite enough to get the team over the line on Thursday night against the Hawks, they did happen to catch the eye of the coaches.
Swans coach John Longmire and Alastair Clarkson awarded the pair six and five votes accordingly in this year’s AFL Coaches Association’s Champion Player of the Year Award.
Parker was a force in the midfield collecting 35 possessions, 14 clearances and a goal while Rohan was a standout up forward booting four spectacular goals.
The Swans duo were the only players in red and white to be recognised by the coaches with Hawthorn’s Sam Mitchell (eight votes), Shaun Burgoyne (six votes), Jordan Lewis (four votes) and Cyril Rioli (one vote) recording the votes.
Parker has now moved into seventh spot overall, jumping ahead of teammate Dan Hannebery in eighth spot.
At the top of the leaderboard, Adelaide’s Rory Sloane leads Patrick Dangerfield and Dustin Martin.
