The newest member of the Glebe Greyhounds under 13’s side, Kevin Guan, is just three weeks into his junior footy career and he’s loving every minute of it.

Kevin made the move to Sydney from his hometown of Beijing just six months ago to be closer to his mother who is currently studying in Australia.

After playing soccer and competing in swimming in China, Kevin made a decision to try his hand at a new sport upon his arrival in Australia.

“I wanted to try some local fun,” he said.

“At first I didn’t know what Aussie Rules was but my mum said to me just try it. After that I found it was good for me, so my advice would be to just try it.”

Sydney Swans defenders Jeremy Laidler and Harrison Marsh visited Kevin this week to provide him with some tutelage on the skills of Aussie Rules football.

Laidler and Marsh visited the Greyhounds as part of the Swans junior club visits on Tuesday night.

Kevin said he had enjoyed learning the skills of AFL with the overhead mark being the hardest.

“I learnt the skills from training and my coach sent me a Chinese version of the rules,” he said.

“In China the coach is like the God and we need to follow him on everything but here the coach is very friendly.”

The Swans visited more than 22 clubs across Sydney as part of regular Swans Friendly Clubs program that continues to encourage young footballers to chase the dream of playing Australian Rules Football.
