It was a proud day for ten young Koori teens yesterday, as they graduated from their year-long TAFE Outreach program as mentors for their local communities.

Adam Goodes and Michael O'Loughlin congratulated the young adults on their achievements, and addressed the group on how to build leadership skills within their peer groups and the community.

"Try to show the younger kids the right thing to do," O'Loughlin advised.

"You've got a big responsibility now, a lot of young kids look up to you. If you see something that's wrong, you've got to have the courage to stand up and say 'that's not right'," he said.

Goodes encouraged the graduates to build trust within their groups.

"Work on building relationships and building trust together," he said.

"Find out what you're good at, whether it be listening or giving advice, and work on that to make it your strength. And enjoy it - with your help and mentorship, you're making another young person's life a hell of a lot easier."
