Speedy midfielder Jack Hiscox says self-belief is high within the NEAFL Swans following Saturday’s comprehensive win over Redland.
The Swans remain undefeated and moved one game clear at the top of the NEAFL ladder after dismantling the Bombers by 97 points at Brisbane's Leyshon Park.
Eleven goals between QBE Sydney Swans Academy product Ned Reinhard (six goals) and second-year prospect Hiscox (five goals) spearheaded the 23.11 (149) to 7.10 (52) thrashing, while George Hewett (28 disposals) and Zak Jones (26) will be in the mix for a senior recall after best-on-ground performances.
Hewett also amassed a season-high 14 tackles.
Aliir Aliir and Harry Marsh were also solid contributors, holding Redland's forward line at bay throughout the game.
Hiscox, who tallied 16 disposals and five marks with his five-goal haul, said the pressure and intensity placed on Redland was on song from the opening bounce.
“Our pressure on the footy and on the opposition was really strong,” Hiscox said.
“We’ve been able to tie teams down and not let them play the style they want to play in the opening three games. We’ve dictated to them how we want them play.
“We did a good job of that again on Saturday.”
It was after the quarter-time break that the game was blown wide open.
The Swans slammed on seven goals to one in the second term to take a handy 38-point lead into half-time.
It was all one-way traffic from that point on as the visitors booted 13 goals to four in the second half to record their second 90+ point win of the season.
All in all, 12 players hit the scoreboard.
Hiscox put the dominant start to the season down to reward for effort.
"We’ve been itching to get out onto the ground all pre-season. Now we’re into games, we get an opportunity to put our best foot forward and show just how hard we’ve been working,” Hiscox said.
“I think we’ve tried to really enjoy our footy and as a group take that winning energy and intensity into every game. If we bring that, we know that results will take care of itself.
"And it’s speaking for itself at the moment."
The NEAFL Swans host Southport at Drummoyne Oval on Saturday with the opening bounce scheduled for 9.30am.
