Sydney Swans fans are encouraged to wear red for the inaugural #RedDay at the SCG this Sunday 19 June to celebrate the Swans’ 15-year partnership with Australian cancer charity, Redkite.
Redkite provides essential services to children and young people with cancer. Since 2001, Swans players including the likes of Brett Kirk, Rhyce Shaw and Harry Cunningham have supported families dealing with childhood cancer by participating in family days, visits to oncology wards and other Redkite events.
Swans No. 1 ticket holder and Redkite ambassador Adam Spencer said #RedDay is a great initiative.
“Players frequently tell me that, outside of being on the footy field, visiting kids in hospital is one of the things they most enjoy about being a footballer,” Spencer said.
“I’ve seen the partnership with Redkite flourish over the past 15 years and this year we want to make it really special.
“The Swans look great in red, Redkite looks great in red, and Swans supporters look great in red. Let’s turn the SCG into a sea of red this Sunday!”
Redkite CEO Jenni Seton said the partnership is making a huge difference in the community.
“The loyal members and fans of the Sydney Swans should feel proud of the contribution the club and its players have made to children and young people with cancer. Together we’re a big family providing real support in our community,” Seton said.
“The Swans have hosted an annual Redkite celebrity game to help raise awareness of Redkite’s services and the players have made an immense impact by their regular hospital visits and so much more.”
Sydney Swans Chief Executive and Managing Director Andrew Ireland said the Swans are excited to host the inaugural #RedDay.
“The Swans are proud to call Redkite a partner of 15 years – they do an amazing job in the community by helping kids and families affected by cancer,” Ireland said.
“We’re hoping our inaugural #RedDay will help raise vital funds, so we’re encouraging fans to show their support by wearing red and collecting a red headband for a gold coin donation.
“We look forward to celebrating our 15-year partnership with Redkite at the SCG this Sunday.”
