Sydney young gun Will Hayward says the Swans have an eye on maintaining their perfect away record ahead of a clash with the Brisbane Lions.
The Swans will face the Lions at the Gabba on Saturday afternoon as they look to bag their fifth win from five away starts in the Round 10 fixture.
Hayward said it was important the Swans were on the ball at the SCG and on the road.
“It’s just about playing consistent football whether it’s here or away,” Hayward said.
“This year it’s been away where we’ve been playing our better footy.
“We’ve come off a win at home but we’ve moved on from that and it’s a new challenge this week.
“We try to play our brand of footy wherever we go. We play our best when we have 22 contributors and hopefully that’s the way it is this week.”
Sydney has notched away wins over the West Coast Eagles, Western Bulldogs, Geelong Cats and Hawthorn and after nine rounds sits in fifth.
Now awaiting the Swans is a Lions outfit brimming with confidence off the back of a 56-point victory over the Hawks.
Brisbane was winless ahead of its clash with Hawthorn at the Gabba on Sunday but stunned the Hawks with lightning-quick ball movement through the centre.
The height and strength of forwards Eric Hipwood (four goals) and Tom Cutler (two) challenged Hawthorn’s defence, while fellow talls Oscar McInerney and Daniel McStay brought the ball to ground for speedsters Cameron Rayner and Charlie Cameron.
Raynor is the AFL’s current No. 1 Draft pick and impressed with his speed and instinct around goal and kicked two majors, while Cameron is one of the quickest in the competition, took a Mark of the Year contender and bagged two goals of his own.
Brisbane’s blistering ball-movement was largely generated by midfielders Dayne Zorko (30 touches) and Dayne Beams (28), while Luke Hodge’s leadership was immense at half-back as the Lions stunned his former side.
Hayward said the Swans were set for a huge challenge.
“They’re playing really good footy at the moment,” Hayward said.
“They’re playing high-pressure footy and are moving the ball really well through the corridor, so we just need to make sure the things we put in place really come to light when we head over there.
“They’ve obviously had a good win on Sunday and that just makes us a lot hungrier and eager to get over there and get the job done.”
