THERE’S no doubt George Hewett has what it takes to succeed but he’s just had to wait a lot longer than most to get an opportunity.

Sydney’s two other round one debutants Callum Mills and Tom Papley played their first senior game against Collingwood last Saturday night just four months after joining the Swans.

But it took Hewett until the start of his third season to earn his chance.

The trio will now look to build on their impressive life as first-teamers when the Swans take on Carlton at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Parker up there with Kennedy

Collingwood learnt if Josh Kennedy doesn't get you, then Luke Parker will. For all the hype, justified mind you, surrounding Lance Franklin last week, Parker's performance underlined how much Sydney missed him in last year's finals and how much of an asset he will be this campaign.

When news broke last September that Franklin's season was over it was quickly assumed so, too, was Sydney's, though in truth the die was cast a month earlier when Parker was carried off the SCG on a stretcher with multiple fractures in his leg.

He might not have the star power of Franklin or the swag of honours of Kennedy but the 23-year-old has in the past two seasons proven himself to be a vital cog in the Swans' midfield. If there was any doubt then that should have been erased last Saturday night with a career-best 40 possessions.

In fact, not much separates Parker from Kennedy, regarded by many as the Swans' premier midfielder and one of the best ball winners in the competition.
