The QBE Sydney Swans Academy had success on draft night with inaugural member Ben Davis drafted to the Adelaide Crows.
After injury setbacks during his draft year (2015), Davis’ dream was realised on Friday night when he was taken with pick 75 in the National Draft.
The younger brother of former Sydney Swans player Abe Davis, Ben set about a long-term recovery strategy as he dealt with stress fractures in his feet.
Davis would return to the Sydney Swans Academy during his U19 year with several strong performances in the Academy Series against the Giants.
General Manager of the Academy Chris Smith said Davis was a popular member of the Academy who displayed a great attitude in pursuit of his AFL dream.
“It’s fantastic that Ben has been provided an opportunity at AFL level, particularly given the challenges he has faced with injury,” Smith said.
“He has maintained a positive attitude and was able to showcase his skills throughout the 2016 season.
“Ben is an exciting prospect as he is still growing into his body and all aspects of his game have incredible upside.”
Davis is a versatile player who has shown an ability to play back, forward or through the midfield with good kicking skills, strong hands and notable pace.
The QBE Sydney Swans Academy players, coaches and staff wish Ben all the best with his AFL dream at the Adelaide Crows Football Club.
