The Canada Bay Cannons have been boosted by $1000 worth of brand new footballs.
The Cannons were chosen as one of only ten clubs to win this year’s Sydney Swans Volkswagen Grassroots Grant, with the money going towards purchasing new Sherrins for next season.
Former Swans champion Jude Bolton was joined by Five Dock Volkswagen General Manager Michael Della Franca at Drummoyne Oval last Wednesday night to congratulate the Cannons on winning the Volkswagen Grassroots Grant.
Bolton, who played 303 games and won two premierships with the Swans, then put the up and coming Cannons players through their paces with a training session.
Canada Bay Cannons Board Member Jeremy Stanwix said the club’s excited to receive the grant.
“As you can imagine, we go through a lot of footballs in a season, so we’re really excited to receive the Volkswagen Grassroots Grant – this gives us a huge head start financially for season 2017,” Stanwix said.
“Grassroots sport is where it all begins, and the importance of companies like Volkswagen and the Swans supporting youth clubs can’t be underestimated.
“The new balls will be branded Five Dock Volkswagen, which is great as they are a platinum sponsor of the Canada Bay Cannons.
“We really value this relationship with Five Dock Volkswagen as the assistance is vital for the ongoing financial viability of the club, helping us to be sustainable and plan for future growth. Five Dock Volkswagen haven’t just handed over the cash – they’ve been actively engaged with the club and have a visible presence on game days and at functions throughout the season.”
