The AFL has today officially launched Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round.
Swans CEO Andrew Ireland, along with players Abe Davis and Dane Rampe, joined AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan and Sir Doug Nicholls’ daughter Aunty Pam Pedersen in launching the round.
It's the first time in the league’s history that a themed round has been named in the honour of one individual.
Sir Doug Nicholls was born on Cummeragunja mission in New South Wales in 1906. He played football for Fitzroy before becoming a Pastor and pioneer for reconciliation in Australia.
Sir Doug Nicholls then went on to become the first Indigenous person to be Knighted and hold the position of Governor of South Australia.
The Swans kick off Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round on Friday night, when they face the Kangaroos in Marn Grook at the SCG.
