The Swans will be without a number of senior players for Saturday’s pre-season clash with Port Adelaide at Blacktown.
While a knee injury has opened an opportunity for Jarrad McVeigh to assume the senior coaching duties, Ted Richards, Ben McGlynn, Gary Rohan and Sam Reid will also be watching on from the sidelines.
Reid injured his hamstring in the opening quarter of last week’s intra-club match at Marrickville.
General Manager of Football Tom Harley says Reid has suffered a minor grade one strain.
“Given the time of the year we will take a conservative approach with Sam,” Harley said.
“He’s unlikely to play in the NAB Challenge, but we remain hopeful he will be ready for the start of the season.”
McGlynn is also taking a conservative approach, as he returns from a calf injury.
“Ben’s training and running well at the moment so we’ll look to integrate him fully into our skills sessions in the next week,” Harley told the HCF injury update.
“The next step will be to build his fitness base before he looks at a return to playing. While we can’t put a definitive return date on Ben, he’s certainly ticking all the boxes required.
“Gary is another who is slowly building his training back up – he’ll look to resume running in the next week to 10 days as he recovers from a hamstring injury."
Meanwhile Ted Richards has trained well over the past fortnight as he recovers from a calf injury and is likely to be available for selection from next week.
