The Sydney Swans have welcomed three new faces into the club’s leadership group for 2016.
Heath Grundy, Dan Hannebery and Dane Rampe will join co-captains Jarrad McVeigh, Kieren Jack along with Josh Kennedy, Nick Smith and Luke Parker in the new-look leadership group this season.
Grundy is entering his 12th season with the Swans and has been elected into the leadership group for the first time.
The 29-year-old is a key pillar of the Swans’ backline and is coming off his best season where he finished fifth in the Club Champion Award.
Originally recruited as a rookie, Grundy played a key role in the Club’s 2012 premiership and has continued to improve with experience.
In 2010, Hannebery burst onto the AFL scene claiming the Rising Star Award after playing seven games in his debut year.
The 24-year-old has become renowned as one of the competition’s most damaging midfielders and has picked up a number of individual honours along the way, including a premiership medallion, two All-Australian guernseys and the AFL Coaches’ Association Award.
Meanwhile, Rampe’s journey to the AFL has been unique. After missing out on three national drafts, the Sydney-born-and-bred local was given an opportunity on the Swans’ rookie list and hasn’t looked back since.
The 25-year-old has gone on to play 72 senior games including representing the Swans on the biggest stage in football in 2014.
