Individual performances are usually glossed over under the dark shadow of a disappointing performance like Saturday night’s effort against Geelong.
But Josh Kennedy’s 32 disposals and nine clearances was hard to ignore, so too Lewis Jetta and Isaac Heeney’s energy on a relatively dim night at Simonds Stadium.
Kennedy was the Swans’ standout finishing with his tenth 30+ disposal game for the season (sixth in a row).
Heeney looked incredibly composed and unfazed by the Cats crowd to finish with 15 possessions and a goal while Jetta’s good form continued with 23 disposals, nine tackles, seven forward fifty entries and two goals.
Young midfielder Jake Lloyd, who himself could hold his head high after gathering 23 possessions, said post-match Jetta was enjoying a superb season to date and will be critical to any success leading up to – and during – finals.
“Lewis has been in great form all year, he had a fantastic game last week against Adelaide and it’s great that he’s continuing his form,” Lloyd said.
“It’s an important time of the year now so hopefully he can carry that on.”
All three will need to stand up again, with the rest of the playing group to follow, if the Swans are to shake a current slump which has resulted in three losses from the past four weeks.
In front of a packed SCG crowd on Friday night, Swans do battle with Collingwood in crucial clash for both clubs.
The Swans are fighting for a top four spot while finals are on the line for the eleventh placed Magpies.
Back in front of the home support, Lloyd was confident the side could snap out of a form slump and account for the Pies.
“We’re going to have to play well next week to get the four points,” Lloyd added.
“It’ll be good to get back in front of the home crowd, doesn’t matter where it is it’s always a tough game against them.”
The last time Collingwood played at the SCG was back in 2000. Since then the past 13 Sydney encounters – of which three have ended in Swans wins – have been staged at ANZ Stadium.
