Sprints, then skills, then sprints, then skills then back to the line for another round of sprints.
Such has been life for the first-to-fourth-years during week one of the Swans’ 2015/16 preseason campaign.
Week one down, plenty more to come with the group taking advantage of two rest days before doing it all again on Monday.
Speedy forward Dean Towers was one to impress in Friday’s session which included blocks of hard running and ball drills with the aim of refining the players’ skills while under physical and mental duress.
“It’s always tough to come back with the intensity change,” Towers said who’s tackling his fourth preseason at Swans.
“It’s a bit different this year, we’re doing a skill block into running, then skills, running, skills and running so the skills are definitely under fatigue more.
“It’s a good opportunity to knuckle down and get them right.”
Last year’s 3km time trial winner Jack Hiscox has been leading the pack sprints with challenges coming from Jordan Foote, Brandon Jack and the re-rookied Harry Marsh who have all come back in great condition thanks to some extra training during the offseason.
Towers, who’ll be looking to cement a spot within the senior side in 2016, said every bit helps in the lead up to the preseason.
“A lot of the boys stayed in Sydney after their holidays and have been running around Centennial Park, making sure we’re fit and ready to come back,” Towers added.
“Still doesn’t prepare you for the opening week. It’s a massive intensity change+ but we’re pulling up better for it having done the work early.”
The entire playing group will come together for the first time at the Swans’ main train session on Wednesday, December 3, including the Swans’ new draftees and rookies.
Josh Kennedy has already been a participant at training while Luke Parker and Ben McGlynn have also come back ahead of schedule.
