Reserves return with strong victory

The Sydney Swans reserves have returned from last weekend’s bye with a resounding win over Belconnen at the SCG this morning.
After tasting defeat against the Brisbane Lions reserves in their last game, the Swans came out firing with a seven-goal first quarter and led from start-to-finish in a dominant display that puts the side back to second place on the NEAFL Eastern Conference ladder.
Not content with a seven-goal half-time lead, the Swans powered home in the second half with an impressively accurate 12-goal third term setting up a 130-point victory.
With Mark Seaby still on the injury list and Tommy Walsh leaving the game early, Jesse White stood up as the Swans’ number one ruck option. Not only did White control the ruck across the ground, but he had a major impact when he drifted forward, finishing with six goals - the bulk of which came from open play.
In his second game back following a fractured collarbone, Luke Parker was a key component in the powerful Swans midfield. Along with the likes of Jarred Moore, Tom Mitchell and Brett Meredith, the bigger bodies of the Swans midfield proved too much for the visitors, as they drove the team forward at every opportunity and set-up plenty of scoring chances. In a pleasing sign for the crowd who braved the early morning elements, Parker absorbed several heavy bumps in the midfield - dishing out a few of his own as well - and got through the full four quarters.
Trent Dennis-Lane made the most of the supply into the forward line, finishing with seven goals from a combination of deadly accurate set-shots and clever snaps. Jed Lamb also showed positive signs in arguably his best game of late, finishing with three classy goals in a neat cameo.
The Sydney Swans reserves head north next weekend when they face the Gold Coast Suns reserves at Metricon Stadium as the curtain raiser to the senior sides clash.
