Sydney Swans coach John Longmire has indicated the club’s decision on the recruiting Academy and Father-Son prospects will be left to draft night due to the new points system implemented by the league.
All eyes will be on the Swans to see what they do on draft night with a number of prospects eligible under the system including QBE Sydney Swans Academy graduate Callum Mills and Father-Son prospect Josh Dunkley.
Longmire said it would be interesting to see how the industry dealt with the new draft system with points allocated to each selection.
“I am a bit unsure about how it will work itself out because of the new points system so it will be interesting to see how it goes.”
“We obviously have academy prospects and father-son prospects but with the new points system it is going to be very much about how it transpires on the night.”
“Whilst we will go in with the best possible plans I am sure we will be like every other club in that we will just have to sit there, wait and see how it pans out.”
“That is going to be the case this year more so than ever.”
Longmire said he fully supported the recommendations made to him by the club’s recruiting department about the best way to approach the evening.
“We are going into this draft period as we always do with full faith in our recruiting team led by Kinnear Beatson.”
“Kinnear is a fantastic person to have involved at that very important part of the football club so he will lead the discussion surrounding what will happen on draft night as he always does.”
The 2015 National Draft will take place at the Adelaide Convention Centre on November 24, 2015.
