Sydney Swans defender Ted Richards has been ruled out of Sunday’s clash with the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.
Richards joined teammates for today’s main training session, but after consultation with medical staff, it was ruled that Richards had not fully recovered from the effects of a concussion he sustained during last Thursday night’s match against Port Adelaide.
Lance Franklin, Kurt Tippett and Daniel Robinson all return to the team to take on the Lions, with last week’s debutant Toby Nankervis making way, along with injured duo Richards and Gary Rohan.
Sydney Swans General Manager of Football Tom Harley said that the final call on all concussion injuries rest with the Club doctor.
“We have monitored Ted’s progress during the week and after a good period of rest, he felt well enough to resume training, however he relayed to our medical staff that he was not feeling 100 per cent during the session,” Harley said.
“As such, he was ruled out of Sunday’s match. We will continue to monitor his progress and pending the appropriate medical clearance, hope he is available next week."
