Dean Cox was appointed the role of senior coach in November 2024, succeeding 2012 premiership coach John Longmire.
Cox joined the Sydney Swans coaching panel at the end of 2017, serving as assistant coach under Longmire who held the role for 13 years. His move to the harbour city followed a playing and coaching career spanning 17 years in his home state of Western Australia.
The 204-centimetre big man redefined rucking in the modern game over his 290 matches and 14 seasons with the West Coast Eagles.
After retiring at the end of season 2014, Cox held the AFL record for most hit-outs (6,628) – Aaron Sandilands would then take over that mantle – while his athleticism allowed him to find plenty of the footy and impact on the scoreboard.
His honour roll extends to a premiership (2006), a best and fairest award (2008) and six All Australian honours (2005-2008, 2010-2011).
In his final year as a player, Cox held a position as a part-time ruck coach at the Eagles, before moving into the role full-time for three seasons.
