The Sydney Swans will be looking to emulate the relentless pressure that saw them defeat Port Adelaide by 48-points on Saturday night for the remainder of the season.
In an intense battle at Adelaide Oval the Swans smashed Port Adelaide in the tackle count finishing the contest at 76 tackles to 52.
Coach John Longmire said the clear aim of the side was to maintain that pressure as regularly as possible throughout the whole season.
“We try and keep working on it (relentless pressure) because I think it is always going to be in vogue,” Longmire said.
“The best teams that get to the pointy end of the season do it consistently well, it is very difficult to play your best every week but that is what the aim is.
“We try and do it just as every other team does and we don’t always get it right but we will keep trying.”
The Swans kicked 14 goals against the Power to prove the high level of defensive intensity does not have a negative impact upon the scoreboard.
Longmire remains confident his side’s defensive pressure will play a key role in their scoring ability throughout the 2015 season.
“I think tackling techniques have improved and there is more emphasis on being able to do it.”
“It not only stops the opposition goals but it can turn the 50/50 balls into goals for your team and turnover scores are so important these days.
“There is no doubt that the focus on that aspect of the game stops the opposition from scoring but also helps you score.”
The Swans will take on the Greater Western Sydney Giants in their first home game at the SCG for the season on Saturday afternoon.
“I am sure it will be a pretty solid game because they are in ripping form the GWS guys and we are looking forward to it,” Longmire said.
