The Sydney Swans are excited to be a major part of what is being dubbed as 'Sydney Super Week', with a run of major events set to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from around Australia and the world.
Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres said the line-up of sporting and cultural events is expected to attract almost 765,000 local, interstate and overseas visitors, contributing an estimated $50 million to the NSW economy.
‘The week has something for all ages and tastes, and will see Sydney in the spotlight again, confirming our place as Australia’s capital city for major events,’ Mr Ayres said.
‘Throughout the week, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas, Vivid Sydney, also brings the city to life creating a spectacular backdrop for visitors and locals alike.’
Sydney Super Week will include the following sporting events:
- Super Rugby Grand Final rematch between NSW Waratahs and Crusaders at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 23 May
- State of Origin game one at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday 27 May
- AFL Indigenous Round match featuring Sydney Swans v Carlton at Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday 29 May
- Sydney FC taking on Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 30 May
- Australian Badminton Open at Sydney Olympic Park from 26-31 May
Sydney FC will also host 2014-15 English Premier League Champions, Chelsea FC at ANZ Stadium the following week on Tuesday 2 June.
In addition to these major sporting events and Vivid Sydney, the critically acclaimed production of Les Miserables continues at the Capitol Theatre.
Sydney Super Week will showcase Sydney to a global audience and attract visitors from all around Australia and the world.
