Sydney Swans defender Heath Grundy believes his side is getting closer to playing more consistent football after an improvement in their intensity against Melbourne on Saturday night.
The Swans’ 38-point win over the Demons at the MCG was their fourth of the season and leaves them sitting in fourth position on the ladder.
Speaking on Big Sports Breakfast, Grundy was confident his side is heading in the right direction despite not reaching their optimum level.
“We started better than last year but we are still a little bit away from our best footy despite having shown glimpses of it,” Grundy said.
“We need to be able to do it for four quarters now and do it consistently week in and week out.
“I thought our pressure was a lot better on the weekend in our forward line, we were able to get some repeat (entries), turn it around and force some rushed behinds.”
The Swans face a tough fortnight of football as they prepare to take on Geelong at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night before a trip to the MCG to face Hawthorn.
One of the key cogs in the Swans’ defence, Grundy trusts his side is on the verge of reaching the consistency they are searching for.
“I think the effort is there it is just about getting everyone together and onto the same page with what we want,” he said.
“This time of the year it takes a little bit to find your feet about what everyone needs and hopefully we can get that together very soon.
“We hope that will set us up for a strong second half to the year.”
Grundy said he was ready for a tough task against an in form Geelong on Saturday night.
“They are always a good side and on the weekend they played well so as usual with the Cats we will have our work cut out,” he said.
“They have a strong forward line with Hawkins and Clark so in defence we will be pretty busy I would think.”
