Sydney Swans recruit Isaac Heeney will make his AFL debut when he takes to the field against Essendon on Saturday afternoon.
Heeney, a QBE Swans Academy graduate, is a confirmed starter for Saturday’s clash at ANZ Stadium.
The 18-year-old’s selection comes after an impressive NAB Challenge campaign in which he showcased his skills in all three matches.
The Swans claimed Heeney with pick 18 in the 2014 National Draft through the academy selection process.
He will wear the No. 5 jumper after inheriting from 2012 Norm Smith medallist Ryan O’Keefe following his retirement last season.
Heeney collected 49 disposals at an average of 16 disposals per game and kicked three goals during his three pre-season matches.
Co-captain Jarrad McVeigh last week acknowledged the hard work of the young Swan throughout the pre-season.
"His three games have been really impressive so it’s good to have guys pushing for positions," McVeigh said.
"He’s got a ready-made body for AFL and he knows our systems after coming through the academy.
“They learn what’s required to play at this level so he’s come off a really good base and done everything we’ve asked of him.”
The full team for the round one clash against Essendon will be named on sydneyswans.com.au at 6.25pm tonight.
