SWANS defender Paul Bevan believes last weekend's victory over the Fremantle Dockers could help his side find some momentum.

Acknowledging the importance of every victory in an extremely close season, Bevan said the game could be the beginning of a roll for the Swans.

"It was a massive game for us," he said.

"Not only did we need to win it to keep our season on track, but obviously for Mickey O [Michael O'Loughlin] and Goodesy [Adam Goodes], their big milestones. So yeah, it was a big day for the club and we were pretty pumped.

"We know how tight the competition is. If we lose a game at the moment, it's almost like losing two games because it's so close."

"In saying that, we just want to get a bit of a roll on, to get two in row.

"We've got a big trip going over to West Coast, so to get some momentum going would be great."

With just two wins separating second and tenth spot on the ladder, Bevan said the team believe they are still a chance of securing a top-four place at the end of the season and that all-important double chance in the finals.

"We definitely think so," he said of the club making the top four. "Traditionally Swans don't think too far ahead.  We think one week at a time."

"Deep down, I think it's pretty much a goal of ours. We know how important it is to get a top-four spot with a second chance in the finals.

"We know how close it is at the moment, so we can't afford to look that far ahead."

After a troublesome 2006, and a pre-season injury that saw him sidelined until round seven this year, Bevan has recently found some consistency in the senior side.

"It's a good feeling," said the young defender.

"My year didn't start off too well, during the pre-season I got myself injured.

"We're not exactly where we want to be on the ladder at the moment, but it's good to be back out there."

Bevan has enjoyed the tutelage of a new defensive coach, after Peter Berbakov joined the club at the end of least season.

"Berbs has been awesome.

"He's definitely shown a lot of interest in the younger guys. He looks after me personally, along with Sean Dempster.

"I've learned so much from him this year. He does little things, like after training, he'll do a little bit of one-on-one stuff with us.

"I've loved having Berbs take over that role."

As the season continues, Bevan hopes to secure his place in the senior side and continue to improve as a footballer.

"I think I've slowly got a little bit more confident in my own game.

"I know there's a lot of areas I've got to improve on, but I'm just getting a little bit more confident with each game.

"I'm just trying to secure a spot. There's areas I've got to improve on, I know that."
