Getting ready for the season opener against Port Adelaide will be firmly in the mind of the coaching staff during Friday night’s clash against Greater Western Sydney.
After a weekend off the Swans return for their second JLT Community Series match against the Giants in Blacktown on Friday night.
Defensive coach Henry Playfair will take the reins as senior coach for the match and is looking forward to the challenge.
“It is a good opportunity to play a bit of a different role to try and assist the guys in playing well to get themselves ready,” Playfair said.
“I have done it before, a couple of years ago, so that was a good little taste and it is exciting to do it again.”
“John is still the head coach at the end of the day and I am delivering his message so it is a good experience on the day to deliver at different times.”
“We will work together on the day and it will be good to get some feedback from him on what I did well and what I can work on.
Senior Swans including Lance Franklin, Kieren Jack and Sam Naismith are set for their first match of the pre-season after sitting out the opening JLT Series match against North Melbourne.
Playfair is looking at the way his side plays more so than the result as the Swans look to settle ahead of the season opener against Port Adelaide.
“We are looking for a solid performance across the board to get good conditioning and good habits to get ourselves ready,” he said.
“It will be a solid hit out against a quality team where we will be looking to perform well, get through and look to preparing for round 1.”
