The Sydney Swans set an all-time attendance record for an AFL match at the SCG on Saturday night, with 46,323 fans turning out for their Elimination Final against Essendon.
The crowd surpassed the previous record of 46,168 set by Sydney and Geelong in Round 22, 1997.
A total of 413,699 supporters have cheered on the Swans at the SCG this year for an average crowd of 34,475.
“The Sydney Swans are the biggest sporting club in NSW and today’s crowd typifies the Club’s success in the harbour city, 35 years on from their first ever game at the SCG,” SCG Trust CEO Jamie Barkley said.
“They will call the ground home for the next three decades and we look forward to hosting many more sold out Swans games in the future for their loyal fans to enjoy.
“The crowd of 46,323 for their elimination final is an amazing feat and we wish the Swans the very best for the rest of their campaign in September.”
