Sydney Swans defender Callum Mills is confident his side will bounce back from their disappointing performance against GWS Giants in the opening Marsh Series match.
The Swans will face North Melbourne in their second and final pre-season hit out on Monday afternoon in Tasmania.
Mills said it was important his side focussed on competing this week in their final match ahead of Round 1.
"We just need to put it all together with both contested possession and then on the outside being able to do both of those things," Mills said.
"Being able to string together a good performance is important because we were patchy in a lot of areas in the game against the Giants."
"When you do that you can't really out your best foot forward so we are trying to rectify that to play a tough, hard brand of football this week."
Mills will return to the side that lost to the Giants alongside Isaac Heeney, Tom Papley and Jake Lloyd for the contest with North Melbourne.
"Whoever puts on our guernsey has the responsibility of playing competitive football and we weren't competitive last weekend,"
"That was the most disappointing thing; you can get beaten by structures but when you are not at a level to compete against the opposition that is where it hurts."
The 22-year-old is confident the Swans have the ability to compete with the best teams in the competition in 2020.
"We definitely have the potential to play finals and that is what we are aiming for," Mills said.
"If you don't have those aspirations then what are you setting your club up for?
"There is no doubt about it we have the potential to play but we just have to put the performances together."
