The Sydney Swans would love to thank the 315 loyal supporters who have this week signed up for memberships as the club fights the coronavirus crisis.

In this week alone, 13 people have reserved a seat at the SCG, which the club is sure to keep warm, while four people have signed up as Global Supporters to cheer on the red and white from afar and 72 Victorians have joined the team.

The club is overwhelmed by the extraordinary commitment shown by these new members and the wider Swans community in these unprecedented times.

Whether you’ve signed up as a member, are spreading the cheer from home in your red and white or have sent a message of support, your passion is lifting the spirits of everyone at the club throughout these challenging times.

Michael Barbara and his family are among the many full-blooded Sydney fans who’ve shown phenomenal support this week, with Michael – a 10-year member of the club – registering his wife Jessica and daughter Lily for memberships.

His son Isaac has been a member for three years and in that time has witnessed countless unforgettable moments in Swans history with his dad.

Michael is very passionate about backing the Swans in these testing times.

“I think clubs like the Swans, and the AFL more broadly, provide a lot more value to members than just a reserved seat for 11 games a year,” Michael said.

“They’re tackling big issues in society, they’re bringing the community together in a healthy environment and they’re undertaking physical activity, so I think it’s really important that clubs like the Swans are supported in really difficult times like these.

“Being a member is about being part of a community, it’s about having healthy debates around issues in our society, it’s about getting together with friends and family and it’s about getting people connected.

“I still feel a strong sense of belonging to the club despite knowing I won’t be able to go to games this year. I’m looking forward to Round 1 and I’m looking forward to seeing the boys get out on the pitch.”

Michael has a message for any Swans supporter who is yet to join the red and white as a member.

“Now is a better time than ever to get behind the club and support the Swans, and I predict we’re going to have a big year.”
