HEATH Grundy continued his fine form in the 2009 season and is quickly cementing his spot as the Swans' third tall defender in another impressive performance against St Kilda on Saturday night.

The 23-year-old, who originally hails from Norwood, gathered 18 possessions and took 10 marks in undoubtedly his best game so far.

Standing at 192cm and weighing 99 kilograms, Grundy is an imposing figure on the ground but softly spoken off it, and said a few mistakes were the difference between defeat and victory.

“We were pretty good all night even though the third quarter let us down a little bit,” Grundy said.

“It was a good step forward for us and at least we know we can take on the good teams. Now we have to keep moving forward and play to that effort level week in and week out.”

Grundy is conceding less than one goal a game this season and ranks fourth in the team for marks and contested marks.

“I am happy to be playing in the backline and I am happy to be in the team. Playing alongside Craig Bolton is great as he helps me with my game.”

His performances have not gone unnoticed by coach Paul Roos.

“Heath Grundy has just improved enormously over the last six weeks,” Roos said. “He was fantastic again tonight.”

Although disappointed with the loss, Grundy is adamant that the Swans have a bright future especially with a lot of the younger guys receiving extensive runs in the senior team.

“Nick Smith has been really good down back taking on a quality forward each week. Jesse White has become a strong target in our forward line and it definitely helps for the younger guys to be playing senior footy.”

Grundy says the Swans are keen to win the remaining four games of the season to build belief for the 2010.

“We have been a little bit off this season so to try and win the four last games is important. We think we can win every week.”
