The Sydney Swans have named an unchanged team for Saturday’s AFL Grand Final against Hawthorn.

With small forward Ben McGlynn unable to recover from a hamstring injury in time for this weekend’s decider, the Swans have made no changes to the side that defeated Collingwood by 26 points last Friday night at ANZ Stadium.

Swans coach John Longmire said he had great confidence in the 22 players who will line up against the Hawks on Grand Final day.

“We went through the whole process and considered everything that was in front of us and obviously the opposition that we’re playing this week, but we thought we would name the players that were pretty good for us against Collingwood,” Longmire told SwansTV.

“They did a good job for us and hopefully they can do it again.”

With more than half of the Swans side set to play in their first ever Grand Final, Longmire said he felt the club had instilled the right mindset in the players ahead of Saturday’s match.

The coach added that he was adamant his players understood when to switch on and switch off leading into the game.

“We’ve got a few younger kids in the team and they get the chance to experience what it’s like to go to Melbourne and be a part of Grand Final week, but it’s also an opportunity to know when to switch on to the footy and make sure that that’s on the front of their mind, and that’s what we’re reinforcing,” Longmire said.

“It’s about knowing when to enjoy the moment and then when to switch on to the job at hand.

“It is an enjoyable week but you need to make sure that you maintain your focus on what the priority is, and there are still a couple of hours of really hard work to do.”

While inclement weather has been forecast for Saturday’s clash, Longmire said cold and wet conditions won’t have any bearing on the way the Swans want to play.

“We’ll have a look at (the forecast) again for Saturday, but there are always subtle changes in regard to what we need to look at, but nothing changes as far as the focus goes, and that’s to win the contested ball and put pressure on the opposition rain, hail or shine,” he said.

“The reality is that we need to bring four quarters of hard pressure footy and we need to maintain our pressure all over the ground.

“We just plan for what’s in front of us and what is in front of us is Hawthorn in the biggest game of the year.”
