THE season has amost come to an end and I'm not talking about our regular football season. It's round 17 this weekend which means there are two more weeks left in the AFL Dreamteam season before the finals series commence.
For those that don't know about it, basically you can choose your best team out of all the players in the AFL but it must fit in with the salary cap of $16 million. You compete against other members in your league and play head to head with other players weekly.
I joined a league with a bunch of mates from the Central Coast of NSW, where I grew up. It started as a bit of fun, but then got pretty serious once it all commenced. I'm currently sitting equal second on the ladder and the next two weeks are crucial.
I’ve got quite a few Swans players in my dream team - in fact most of our backline. I picked up Tadhg Kennelly very cheaply at the start of the season because he’d been away in Ireland, and he’s been a very good buy. Thanks Tadhg!
I’ve also got Heath Grundy, who gets a lot of easy possessions across half back, and Marty Mattner and Nick Malceski. Lots of points amongst those boys.
I did have Mummy in my ruck department until he got suspended, and I’ve got my former team-mate Darren Jolly.
One of my best buys has been Tom Rockliff of Brisbane, who was cheap and is a star in the making. And like a lot of people who play this game, Gary Ablett Jr is my captain every week!
So this weekend I’m playing my mate Steve, who’s fourth, and I’m determined to win and finish first so I play a lesser team in the finals - I’m hoping I get to play my mate Declan’s team, which he calls Shepherd’s weapon, but it really hasn’t been!
Fingers crossed I can get a win this weekend and storm to the top of the ladder and even more importantly we win against the Dees on Sunday.
