I had an exam on accounting and financial management for the economics course I’m doing at University of NSW.
I’ve only been doing three hours a week during the semester, so it wasn’t too hard, but then I probably got a bit ahead of myself going into the exam.
So I walked into the exam room and realised I’d forgotten my calculator. And for an accounting exam, a calculator is a pretty important part of the exam. If you don’t have one, you’ve basically failed before you even walk into the room - otherwise you have to do it all in your head, and unless you’re Jarred Moore or Craig Bolton, that’s too hard.
I had a bit of time up my sleeve before the exam started, so I jumped in my car and shot to a store where you can hire a calculator that has this certain approved sticker on it.
I was stressing to the max - and as a lot of guys here at the Swans will tell you, I do stress when things aren’t going my way!
So I hired the calculator, though even that was a problem because they wanted to take my driver’s licence as security, but of course I had to drive back to the uni and I needed to have it on me! So I ended up giving them 50 bucks as a deposit, and I wasn’t happy about that either.
So I finally walked into the exam with a minute to go. Then I realised I only had one pencil, and no sharpener and no eraser, so that was pretty pointless - literally!
I was rushing around in the exam room, and I went up to the supervisor and asked for an extra pencil and sharpener. They had them, but they also had a good laugh at me.
So in the end I did ok, but I could have done better if I was more prepared and organised.
What it all highlighted for me is that it’s really important to be on top of your studies, in the same way we want to be on top of our game so we remain stress free and can enjoy our footy.
The more prepared you are, no matter what you’re doing, the less stressed you’ll be and the better you’ll perform.
It was a bit of a lesson for me. But luckily most of us prepare better for our footy than we do for our study!
We knew before the game against North on Sunday that we had to get back to being really hungry to win, and hungry to play for each other, to get our hands dirty. We needed to enjoy the contest, and that’s what happened on Sunday.
Everyone went along for the ride, and we were almost as sharp as my pencil was in the exam!
