The Sydney Swans must recover quickly from Sunday’s loss to Essendon and find some consistency in performance ahead of a Round 2 match up against North Melbourne.
Sydney will travel to Melbourne on Friday in preparation for a match against North Melbourne who have won their first two games including an impressive victory over Greater Western Sydney.
Despite some positive signs on Sunday the Swans fell six points short against Essendon and were not able to make the most of their opportunities.
Co-captain Josh Kennedy said there was plenty of hard work to be done this week in order to improve their performance.
“It was really disappointing in the end as we were just a little bit inconsistent with our effort and intensity around the footy all over the ground,” Kennedy said.
“In the first quarter we just gave them a bit too much breathing room and then we weren’t able to capitalise on the momentum that we got.”
“We will have recovery and lick our wounds and move on pretty quick.”
Kennedy said co-captain Luke Parker was impressive in the way he set the tone early in the match with his intensity around the football.
The 31-year-old said his side would review the match and look to press on with preparations for North Melbourne.
“We will address the game and try to work on some of the areas that we need to get better at,” Kennedy said.
“North Melbourne had a really good win today, so we are going to have to lift our standards for next week.”
