Three key Swans likely to face Richmond
The Swans finals preparations will receive a boost with three key players set to return on Saturday evening
Kennedy, who missed Sunday’s win over the Western Bulldogs with hamstring tightness, returned to the training track on Tuesday and moved well in a series of running drills.
Speaking to SwansTV for the HCF Injury Update, club physiotherapist Matt Cameron said the medical team were pleased with Kennedy’s progress this week.
“Josh is coming along really well,” Cameron said.
“He was able to run pretty quickly today and did more than what the team did and is set to train on Thursday.
“He’s looking good (to return).”
McGlynn, who has missed the last two matches with a calf strain, also ran at training on Tuesday and will need to prove his fitness at Thursday’s final training session.
“Ben and Josh ran together today,” Cameron said.
“(Ben)’s looking really good and has done some good work in the last ten days.
“He’s also looking good to train Thursday.”
Cameron also said Reid, who was a late withdrawal from Sunday’s match against the Bulldogs, was likely to be in the mix for selection this week.
“Sam had a bit of groin soreness which was affecting his top speed,” he said.
“Whilst we could have played him, we felt it would be best to rest him for one week.”
Midfielder Craig Bird is likely to miss another match after sustaining a knee injury in the Swans’ round 21 win over St Kilda at the SCG.
Cameron said while Bird had made improvements this week, the club was likely to hold him back to ensure he was in top condition for the Swans’ finals campaign.
“Craig hurt his posterior cruciate in his knee when it slammed straight,” he said.
“He was certainly able to run today, but he does need to be able to run fast and change direction prior to training.
“He’s probably looking a bit unlikely now to go that far for this weekend, but we’ll see how he pulls up tomorrow, but we’ll likely hold him back from another week.”
In other injury news, Brandon Jack will be sidelined this week with an ankle injury.
“Brandon unfortunately hurt his ankle a week ago and it just didn’t settle as we would have liked for the game on the weekend,” Cameron said.
“The NEAFL team doesn’t have a game this weekend, so it just allows him to stay off it this week and give it a chance to settle down, but we expect him to be able to train next week.”
