The 29-year-old, who missed the last three matches battling a calf strain, hit the ground running in the win, collecting 19 possessions, laying three tackles and booting three important goals and was one of the Swans’ best for the match.
Speaking to SwansTV after the win, McGlynn said there was nothing better than sharing a big victory with his team mates.
“It’s great and it’s reward for the hard work we’ve done,” McGlynn said.
“The boys played great hard footy today and we always knew it was going to be tough against Freo, so it was a great win.
“It was just good to be back out there with the boys and I don’t like sitting on the sidelines.
“I love being out there with the guys and it was great to get the win.”
McGlynn was one of the standout performers in a fiercely contested first half, which saw the Swans hold a narrow five-point lead at the main break.
With defender Nick Malceski going down with a hamstring injury in the first quarter, McGlynn said the Swans needed to absorb Fremantle’s pressure and adjust in Malceski’s absence, which they managed to achieve in the second half.
“Mal went down early, so that threw us out a bit but then Macca (Jarrad McVeigh) went back and Reidy (Sam Reid) also helped out down back, so I guess we just adjusted and fought it out,” he said.
“We wasted our opportunities going forward in the first half and we needed to clean it up a bit, and we did late in the third and that got us on a good run for the last quarter.
“The boys held up pretty well and it was good to come away with the (win).”
Another impressive performer in Saturday’s win was midfielder Dan Hannebery, who collected 27 possessions, six tackles, one goal and two goal assists against the Dockers.
Speaking to SwansTV post-match, Hannebery described the win as a great team performance against one of the best defensive teams in the competition.
“It was a great effort.,” he said.
“I thought every player was really important for us today.
“We rate (Fremantle) as one of the best teams in the competition, so it was a really super four-quarter effort and we knew it was going to have to be to get over the line.”
Hannebery highlighted young midfielder Luke Parker, who notched up a game-high 32 possessions - 19 of which were contested - and six tackles, as one of the Swans’ best in the win.
“He’s led the way and he’s been unbelievable for a young player,” he said.
“Every week he’s been putting his best foot forward and gives great effort.
“He’s a really hard inside mid and he’s probably been one of our best players this year and he put in another strong performance today.”
Saturday’s win earned the Swans a home preliminary final, which will be played on Friday September 19.
Hannebery said while it was terrific to earn a week off, it was important the Swans didn’t drop their training intensity over the next fortnight.
“(The win’s) important, but we still need to train really hard and make sure we maintain high standards and work on a few critical areas we think we need to get better in,” he said.
“But we’ll sit back and enjoy tonight and then get back to work tomorrow.”
