Swans Fantasy: Round 12
Swans Fantasy team captains debate who to buy, keep and trade ahead of the Swans' round 12 clash
What did you take out of our round 11 match, Fantasy-wise?
Lotts: In one word – wow! What a complete team performance. It was the club’s highest ever possession count in a match which means one thing – amazing Fantasy scores! We had eight players score over a ton, three in the 90s and two in the 80s. On top of the list was Nick Malceski (DEF $455,330) collecting a career high 37 touches for 143 Fantasy points. Not bad for a defender!
Sub-elite Legends: Midfield dominance, 400+ possessions, and 22 goals - there isn’t much more to say about the game other than it was a fantastic performance across the board. Malceski (DEF $455,330) dominated as you mentioned, six of our midfielders cracked the ton and Franklin (FWD $435,357) joined the party as well with 113 Fantasy points.
Who’s your Swans player of the week?
Lotts: It’s got to be the Birdman (MID/FWD $449,313). In the past two weeks, he’s scored 134 and 131 Fantasy points. That was off the back of 105, and two 87s. Pretty handy numbers. So he’s my much deserved player of the week this round and at $449k with dual position status he may well end up in my team in the coming weeks.
Sub-elite Legends: Joint honours to the bearded brothers in the backline for me. Malceski (DEF $455,330) and Shaw (DEF $410,883) were running rampant off the half-back flank and both notched up 30+ possessions. Malceski top scored with 143, Shaw was two points shy of the ton with 98 but both were looking extremely potent rebounding out of defence.
Which Swans player would you choose as your captain for the next game?
Lotts: I’ve had a bit of luck with this in previous weeks choosing the ever reliable Josh Kennedy (MID $587,302) and he didn’t disappoint last round scoring 123 Fantasy points. So let’s roll the dice and mix it up a bit this week and go with Lance Franklin (FWD $435,357) who’s scored 113, 115 and 106 in his past three matches. The last time he played the Suns, he kicked five goals for 108 Fantasy points so he’s a unique selection this round as captain.
Sub-elite Legends: AFL Fantasy is not about rolling dice mate! Josh Kennedy (MID $587,302) has pumped out 3 successive plus 120-point scores so I’m not messing with a good thing. He will continue to get the big ‘C’ amongst the Swans taking the field this week.
Next up is the Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium, who are the players to look out for from the Suns?
Lotts: The Suns have some serious talent all over the field with none better than the dual Brownlow medallist Gary Ablett (MID $579,414). The little maestro just keeps performing week after week and is averaging 117 Fantasy points a game this year. But it doesn’t stop there considering their other mids – Prestia (MID $509,686), Swallow (DEF/MID $461,296) and O’Meara (MID $460,690) – are averaging 113, 101 and 86 respectively in the past three rounds.
Sub-elite Legends: The quality of the Gold Coast mids goes without saying but big Charlie Dixon (FWD / RUC $319,616) is a Sun I have my eye on. He has had an injury interrupted year, which has kept him to a 60-point average, but after a few games back, he is starting to look in very good touch. He pumped out 87 last week in a losing side and he is DPP eligible. With a break-even of 35 and an average well above 60 in years gone by, he definitely deserves to be considered.
Any changes this week for your team?
Lotts: Of course, there are changes every week. This week I’m looking to bring in Mark LeCras (FWD $447,695) for Matthew Wright (FWD $375,236). I had Wright from the start who had a few good games, so he’s played his part and now he’s making way for a bloke that’s missed a bit of footy this year through injury but can certainly turn it on when he wants. My other change is Fremantle’s Michael Barlow (MID $538,002) for Jared Polec (MID $402,339) who once again I had at the start of the year and has performed extremely well making me over $266k in the process.
Sub-elite Legends: I have decided to part with first-year Magpie Tom Langdon (MID/DEF $376,248) for an under priced Dane Swan (MID $539,727). I also have Melbourne mid Viv Michie (MID $213,517) sitting on my bench without a game in weeks so I have decided to downgrade to young Lions midfielder Zach O’Brien (MID $122,921).
How are your teams actually going this year?
Lotts: I’m not going too bad actually. I’m ranked 11,504 with an average of 1945 which I think is pretty good considering we’re coming off three bye rounds. I can only go up from here with the number of guns coming into my team each week. Bring on the Fantasy Grand Final!
Sub-elite Legends: My start to the year was well below par so I am coming from a long way back. I have jumped about 20,000 spots in the overall rankings in the past three weeks but I’m still 35,000 from the front with an average of 1871 after the byes. I have never finished outside the top 10,000 so I have high hopes for a stronger back half of the year.
