Ben McGlynn says the Sydney Swans would be looking to improve their recent record against Geelong in tomorrow night’s round 11 match at the SCG.

The Cats have had the wood over the Swans in recent times, winning the last three encounters between the two sides, including both meetings in 2013.

Speaking to SwansTV ahead of his return to the side tomorrow night, McGlynn said the Swans would be looking to improve the ledger in this week’s match.

“We’re expecting a hard contest and we’re looking forward to the challenge,” he said.

“They’ve had our measure the last few times we’ve played them, so we’re looking forward to coming out and taking it to them.

Sydney Swans v Geelong Match Day Information

“Geelong has been a top side for many years and we really respect them a lot and can’t wait for the challenge.”

The Cats will arrive in Sydney with confidence after posting a 20-point victory over North Melbourne at Simonds Stadium last Friday night.

Geelong’s triple premiership players including Jimmy Bartel, James Kelly and Joel Selwood were all among the club’s best in the victory, with fellow mid Steve Johnson also set to return this week after serving a one-week suspension.

McGlynn said the Swans would have to counter the visitor’s talented midfield, which he said boasts a good mix of youth and experience.

“They’ve got good midfield depth and their defenders are rock solid down back, so they are always a tough opponent and we’re looking forward to challenging ourselves against the best,” he said.

“(James) Kelly and (Jimmy) Bartel were in (the midfield) last week and did a good job for them and then (Joel) Selwood went forward, so they’ve got a good mix of midfielders who can go in and out.

“We need to respect whoever is in there and go head-to-head and hopefully we come out on top.”

Swans v Cats - last chance ticket offer

McGlynn, who has been among the club’s most impressive performers this season, will return this week after missing the Swans’ 50-point win over Essendon due to illness.

The 28-year-old has faced a frustrating fortnight without football, including last weekend’s bye, and  said he can’t wait to get back on the park this week.

“I’m definitely fit and ready,” he said.

“It’s been about two weeks now for me, so it’s been a long break and it’s been good to freshen the body up.

“It will be good to come back in tomorrow night and hopefully pick back up where I left off.”

With a huge challenge ahead, McGlynn said the team hoped to attract a big Sydney crowd to help the Swans over the line tomorrow night.

“We always enjoy when the crowd gets behind us and we’ve got a great new stand here at the SCG, which hopefully we can pack out,” he said.

“It definitely does help the boys, especially against quality opposition, when the crowd plays their part.

“We saw that on the weekend when Port Adelaide played the Hawks with the way their fans got behind them.

“The boys really enjoy coming out here in front of a packed crowd at the SCG, so it would be great if we could get all of our supporters out here cheering on the Swans.”
