Originally from Spotswood, John Heriot was initially recruited as a forward, and throughout his career occasionally returned to full-forward despite having established himself as a star full-back thanks to his strong marking and brilliant judgement. Between 1958 and 1968 he played 153 games and kicked 39 goals for South Melbourne. For many years, he was vice-captain to Bob Skilton. A member of South Melbourne’s Night Premiership team of 1960, he was a Victorian State representative in 1961. John is a member of the Swans Team of the Century.
