Sydney’s emerging midfield talent were on full display against North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Oliver Florent and James Rowbottom were among the best in Saturday’s impressive win showing a glimpse of what Swans fans will have to look forward to in the future.
Florent was consistent all match ending with 22 disposals and six score involvements in a display that showed his full array of footwork, contested possession and skilful ball use.
Rowbottom lifted for a strong second half to finish with 18 disposals (11 contested disposals) and five clearances.
Coach John Longmire was full of praise for the pair after the 11-point win.
“Ollie has been reasonably consistent and we really like what he gives us, he gives us something a bit different,” Longmire said.
“We need to get guys like Ollie and Rowbottom coming through and having opportunities which they are doing which is good.
“We are confident in that group coming through, but they still have to go out there and do it and compete.”
Veteran midfielders Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker continued to lead the way for the Swans collecting 22 disposals and 19 disposals respectively.
Defender Jordan Dawson said he was impressed by the games of the young duo.
“I think James Rowbottom and Ollie Florent with the way they competed around the stoppage was pretty good today,” Dawson said after the game.
“As a group we were just harder around the contest and came to compete.”
The Sydney Swans will turn their attention straight to their Round 4 match against the Western Bulldogs at the SCG on Thursday night.
