THE SYDNEY Swans have promoted youngsters Harry Cunningham and Shane Biggs for Saturday night's knockout semi-final against Carlton at ANZ Stadium.

But Swans veteran Adam Goodes has failed to prove his fitness and is ruled out for the year.

Elsewhere, Carlton has named in-doubt ruckman Matthew Kreuzer, while Geelong has brought back key forward Tom Hawkins as expected.

Cunningham and Biggs have come into the Swans side at the expense of small forwards Ben McGlynn (calf) and Gary Rohan (omitted).

Goodes, who has been sidelined by a knee injury since round 13, was widely expected to be picked after training during the week but the Swans have decided not to risk him.

The emergencies for the reigning premiers are Brandon Jack, Jed Lamb and Dean Towers.

The Blues have named the same team that beat Richmond last weekend, although Kreuzer remains in doubt after suffering a foot injury against the Tigers.

The ruckman was not sighted at training on Wednesday, but coach Mick Malthouse insisted he had been able to do some work on the track.

Big man Levi Casboult has been included among Carlton's emergencies. He is likely to come in if Kreuzer is unable to play.

Midfielder Brock McLean, who was a very late withdrawal from last weekend's game after feeling quad soreness in the warm-up, has also been named as an emergency.

The Blues' third emergency is David Ellard.

Geelong has made three changes for Friday night's semi-final clash against Port Adelaide at the MCG.

Hawkins, Josh Hunt and Taylor Hunt have replaced Josh Walker (omitted), Corey Enright (knee) and Josh Caddy (ankle).

A decision on whether Hawkins actually takes his place in the team is unlikely to be made until Friday afternoon.

The Cats' emergencies are midfielders Jordan Murdoch and Jesse Stringer and ruckman Trent West.

The Power will go into the match with the same line-up that knocked Collingwood out of the premiership race last weekend.

Port's emergencies are Jake Neade, Jack Hombsch and Paul Stewart.
