THE AFL's Match Review Panel (MRP) has cleared Sydney Swans defender Alex Johnson of any wrongdoing after the Swans second round NAB Cup match against St Kilda.

Johnson escaped a tripping charge after a collision with St Kilda's Clint Jones in the third quarter of Sunday's game at Etihad Stadium, after the force of the contact made was deemed to be "below that required to constitute a reportable offence".

The MRP explained: "Jones has the ball and evades Johnson, who is coming towards him, before disposing of the ball. Johnson is wrong-footed and as Jones goes around him, the players' legs make contact. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence."
