Swans Trade Period wrap
The Sydney Swans have ended the Trade Period with Lance Franklin, two rookie upgrades and three Draft picks inside the first two rounds
Leaving the club is Jude Bolton, Marty Mattner and Mitch Morton, who have all retired, while Shane Mumford was traded to GWS, Jesse White to Collingwood, and Andrejs Everitt to Carlton, while Alex Brown has been delisted.
The Swans welcomed Lance Franklin to the club, who was recruited as a restricted free agent earlier in October.
Franklin played 182 matches for Hawthorn winning two premierships, four All Australian honours and twice winning the Coleman Medal as the League’s leading goal kicker.
At next month’s AFL Draft, the Swans will hold selections 15, 32, 35, 44, and 53.
The Club will also upgrade first-year rookie-listed players Dane Rampe and Brandon Jack onto the primary list.
Swans General Manager – Football Dean Moore said the Club is pleased with the outcome of the last three weeks.
“We’re happy with the position of our list at the end of today’s trade period,” Moore said.
“We’ve been able to bring in one of the best forwards in the AFL in Lance Franklin, who will provide a huge boost in our forward half playing alongside the likes of Sam Reid, Kurt Tippett, Adam Goodes and Gary Rohan.
“We also head into the Draft with three picks inside the top 35, which is a good outcome. Our strategy from the outset was to bring forward our draft picks and we’ve been able to achieve that.
“In the last four years, we’ve seen on average eight players depart the club with a similar number again this year.
“For the players leaving the club, in particular premiership players Jude Bolton, Marty Mattner, Shane Mumford and Mitch Morton, the Swans wish to thank them all for their contribution and wish them all the best in the future.”
The Swans have also committed to recruiting NSW Scholarship holder Lloyd Perris at the AFL Rookie Draft, as well as International Rookie Patrick Mitchell.
Despite Jed Lamb requesting a trade to GWS, a suitable trade couldn’t be achieved during the Trade Period. With Lamb out of contract, he can explore other options via the National or Pre-Season Draft.
The Club’s first list lodgement will be submitted to the AFL on October 31.
