Sydney Swans forward Tommy Walsh will face a fitness test after straining his hamstring late last week.

The big Irishman suffered the injury during the team’s final training session last Thursday and did not take the field in the Swans reserves clash with UWS on Saturday afternoon.

Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron told SwansTV he was hopeful Walsh would be able to play this weekend.

“Tommy suffered a twinge to his hammy in Thursday’s training last week, which was really unfortunate right before round one,” Cameron said.

“It’s just a minor strain and it will be touch and go this week, but we’re hoping he’ll be able to play.”

In other injury news, Swans first-game player Dane Rampe has pulled up well after suffering cramp late in the third term and subsequently being subbed out of the 30-point win over GWS on Saturday evening.

Cameron said Rampe would resume full training this week, adding that it was not uncommon for new players to suffer cramp early in their careers.

“Unfortunately Dane suffered cramp late in the third quarter, which is not uncommon for a first game player so he had to be subbed out,” he said.

“He’s pulled up otherwise well so we’re expecting him to fully train this week.”
