After a strong pre-season where he set a number of personal bests, Jed Lamb broke through in 2013 to play 12 senior games for the club.

The 20-year-old made his debut in round six against the Brisbane Lions at the SCG and played seven consecutive games between rounds 13 and 19 for the Swans.

The young forward also showed his ability to score, slotting nine goals for the season including three two-goal matches against West Coast, the Western Bulldogs and St Kilda.

Speaking to sydneyswans.com.au following his best season to date, Lamb said he knows he has to work even harder this pre-season to earn more opportunities in 2014.

How did you sum up your year in 2013?

I had the full pre-season, which really set me up for a good year and I was lucky enough to end up playing 12 games in the end, so it was great to finally break into the senior side.

What were some of your highlights from the season?

Just debuting against the Brisbane Lions out on the SCG was the highlight and having all of the family up here to see that and just running out with the boys. I didn’t play any finals, but hopefully I will next year.

What improvements do you think you’ve made in your game this year?

I think I just went away and had a really good off-season and then I came back in good shape. I ran a couple of PBs when I got back, so no doubt I’ll have to work even harder to get more PBs moving forward.

You played 12 games in the seniors this year and developed a bit of leadership experience in the NEAFL, was that beneficial for you?

Yeah I think so. Early in the year Timmy Membrey and Jakey Lloyd moved in with me and that was good for leadership as well because I sort of looked after those two boys when they were starting to find their feet when they first got up here.

I enjoyed the leadership roles in the NEAFL and was captain a few times and was the captain when we won our premiership, so that was really enjoyable.

Who has really helped you with your game this year?

I have a really good relationship with George Stone. He’s always chatting to me and talking about footy and even things outside of footy. Another one has been Jarrad McVeigh who has been my mentor this year and he’s been unbelievable with the season he’s had as well.

Who do you think has been the big improver on field this year?

You probably couldn’t go past Dane Rampe. He came in as a rookie and nearly played every game and he’s really cemented his spot down back.

What do you hope to improve on next pre-season?

Just my fitness would be the main thing probably. I need to go away and have a good off-season and then come back in really good shape and hit the gym and try to put on a bit of size.

What are your plans for the off-season?

I’m just going to head back home and then come back up after the Best and Fairest and then a few of us younger boys are heading to Bali for a week. Then I’ll just head back home and catch up with family and friends.
