Lewis Jetta has resisted the lure of returning to Western Australia and has signed a two-year contract extension with the Sydney Swans.

The 24-year-old, who has played 75 games for the Swans, re-signed with the club this week in a deal that will see him remain in the red and the white until at least the end of the 2015 season.

Speaking to SwansTV after extending his contract, Jetta said the decision was made with his young family in mind.

“I’m pretty happy about it,” he said.

“It was a decision that me and my partner made together.

“We’re pretty happy in Sydney and we’re enjoying living here and it just feels right to hang around here for a couple more years.

“We’re settled in and my partner has settled right now living with me in Sydney and we’ve got a little family together and we’re just pretty happy to stay here.

“It’s pretty comfortable and enjoyable living in Sydney and also playing footy here as well.”

Jetta’s commitment follows a series of re-signings from Swans players including Josh Kennedy, Dan Hannebery, Kieren Jack, Nick Malceski, Ryan O’Keefe and Adam Goodes, who have all extended their contracts with the club this year.

Jetta, the winner of the club’s most improved player award last year, said he was excited about what the future holds for the Swans.

“Alex Johnson went down and Dane Rampe was able to come in and played a similar role to what Johnson did back when he was playing,” he said.

“We’ve got really good depth and players who can just step in and play their role each week.”

Following the success of his 2012 season, which also saw him finish the season as the Swans’ leading goal kicker, Jetta hoped his best was still to come.

After a slow start to this season, Jetta has regained some of his on-field brilliance this year, including impressive showings against both Collingwood and Essendon in the last fortnight.

“It’s about just backing myself and having good decision making and just getting back to that hard gutsy run up and down the oval and helping out the midfielders,” Jetta said.

“If I can use my run to help them out then I’m happy to.”

Jetta will miss this afternoon’s round 11 clash against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium with shin soreness, but said that he should be fit for the second half of the season.

“I should be back after the bye,” he said.

“It’s the first time I’ve been out with an injury, but I’m just staying positive and I’m pretty happy that I’ll get an extra week to hang around with my boy and my partner a bit longer.

“I should be back for the Port Adelaide game.”
