Longmire wary of complacency threat
John Longmire admits he's not sure if complacency will affect his squad
The reigning premiership coach is confident his Sydney Swans can maintain their high standards again in 2013. But, while you might expect him to baulk at the 'complacency question,' he doesn't.
"It's a natural question to be asked and I guess you don't really know what the answer is until you get into the season," he told AFL.com.au.
"We don't think that's the case, but you're always mindful of it, and you need to make sure you keep trying to get better and keep trying to improve."
Longmire said it's crucial that his side remained focused on the 'little things', to protect the bigger picture.
"We think the players are still hungry, that's all we can look at at the moment and hopefully that's the case," he said.
Despite a slow start to the pre-season, the Swans are still one of the leading premiership fancies, and a huge boost will arrive mid-year in the form of ex-Crow Kurt Tippett.
Putting aside the unusual, and controversial, circumstances of his arrival, Tippett will inject power up forward in the run up to September - as long as his next few months are managed correctly.
"He's had a couple of little injuries that have held him back but when he's able to train with us … our players get to know him that way," Longmire said.
"Hopefully he's fit enough and in good condition to be able to get back into the team as soon as he can and make an impact for us."
The Swans' premiership defence begins at ANZ Stadium on Saturday with a cross-town clash against GWS.
