Swans coach John Longmire told SwansTV that Reid failed to make it through training this afternoon after sustaining a minor glute strain.
“We thought Sam would train today and that he’d be fine, but unfortunately he was a little bit sore during training and wasn’t able to move too flash at all,” Longmire said.
“He’s got a bit of a minor glute strain and he should be right next week as it is only a minor one, but it just meant he was restricted today and we couldn’t guarantee he’d be good on Saturday.”
Bolton will make his return after three weeks on the sidelines after hyper-extending his knee in the Swans’ round 19 win over Carlton.
Longmire said the 32-year-old was able to prove his fitness at training this week.
“He’s been running for a couple of weeks now and he’s been doing all the training this week and a bit of training last week, so he’s refreshed and ready to go,” he told SwansTV.
“He’s been running around with a real spring in his step at this time of the year, which is unusual because usually he’s done a lot of work by this time of the year.
“I think a couple of week’s rest has done him some good.”
Tommy Walsh is set to play his third game for the Swans, after making his AFL debut against Melbourne in round 8.
Longmire said Walsh has been given another opportunity to play senior football after proving himself in the Swans reserves over the last month.
“Walshy has been playing well for a long time now in our reserves and he gets his opportunity this week,” he said.
“He’s a big, strong body and has really been working on aspects of his game and improving on them, and deserves his opportunity.”
Longmire said Morton was unlucky to miss out on selection this week after impressive performances over the last fortnight as the Swans substitute.
“We seriously looked at giving (Morton) another game this week, but we just thought we’d go with a bigger body in Walshy,” he said.
“We were certainly wary that we wanted Mitch to get some more game time in our reserves, and that’s what we’re going to do and make sure he gets a good four quarters there this weekend.
“Hopefully he can put himself up in line for senior selection again next week.”
