IT HAS been a long journey for Sydney Swans defender Lewis Roberts-Thomson, who is set for his 150th AFL match against Fremantle at the SCG on Saturday.

Roberts-Thomson played rugby union at high school in Sydney before trying his hand at Australian football.

A zone selection from the 2001 draft with only a handful of junior games to his credit, he improved enough to be one of the Swans' best in the 2005 premiership win over West Coast.

A series of injuries have prevented LRT from reaching the 150 milestone sooner, but he is thrilled it has arrived.

And the 28-year-old says his fitness is as good as ever.

"The body is feeling the best that it has," he said on Tuesday.

"That's the thing about AFL footy, it's physically taxing and often the body doesn't hold up over a whole season.

"But currently it's feeling really good."

Roberts-Thomson can also marvel at the road he has travelled.

"The journey that I've had has certainly had some highs and lows, but playing in a few Grand Finals and winning a premiership, I've been very fortunate," he said.

"When I first started playing I was happy to play one game and maybe kick a goal, but to play 150, I'm quite proud of the achievement."

Ryan O'Keefe is firming as a likely starter for the match against Fremantle on Saturday after getting through a tough training session at the SCG on Tuesday.

O'Keefe suffered bone bruising at training just over four weeks ago, sitting out the remainder of the pre-season and the round one victory over Greater Western Sydney.

But the former All Australian took part in full training on Tuesday and would be a welcome inclusion if he can also get through Thursday's final session.

Swans coach John Longmire said on Monday he hoped both O'Keefe and Rhyce Shaw (back) would get through both training sessions this week, but only O'Keefe showed signs he is ready to return.

Shaw took part in very light drills, including a kick-to-kick with Luke Parker, who is still nursing a fractured jaw from the hit he took from Giants veteran James McDonald in round one.

Gary Rohan was also restricted to light duties, while Mark Seaby and Jesse White took part in ruck drills as they try to force their way into the side alongside Shane Mumford.
