Sydney Swans star Jude Bolton remains optimistic about playing finals’ football after it was revealed he could miss up to a month after hyper-extending his knee in Sunday afternoon’s win over Carlton.

Scans this morning confirmed that Bolton suffered a partial tear of both his anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments in his left knee, but would not require surgery.

Speaking to SwansTV this morning, Bolton said he was relieved to have received the positive news.

“(The concern) was the dreaded ACL and it’s not what you want to hear,” Bolton told SwansTV.

“It was a pretty serious hyperextension and it just felt pretty ordinary.”

“I was hobbling off and then a ball came in the area, and Teddy Richards has yelled out “Jude!” but I couldn’t get near the ball.

“We’ll assess it and do all the proper rehab and get it right.”

Bolton was set to play his milestone 300th game in three weeks’ time against Hawthorn at the SCG, but the 32-year-old said he was more concerned with getting back in the mix for finals’ football later this year.

“I’m not so much concerned about the milestone rather than the fact the boys are playing good footy and I just want to be part of it,” he said.

“You feel for guys like Gary Rohan and all the guys who had such good pre-seasons and then missed the opportunities at this stage.

“Certainly I’ve dodged a bullet in that sense and I just want to do everything right to be able to play and help contribute.”

Speaking to the media this afternoon at the SCG, Swans coach John Longmire said he was relieved to hear that the injury would not end Bolton’s season.

“Late last night we were expecting the worst, especially after I was able to see the vision because I didn’t think it looked too good,” he said.

“I went home last night probably thinking the worst and then woke up this morning with the relative good news that we can still see Jude Bolton playing with us this year.”

Longmire added that he was confident that Bolton will have the resilience to recover from this injury and return to senior football.

“Jude’s pretty positive and he’ll be trying to push to get back even quicker,” he said.

“He’s a pretty good player, Jude Bolton, and he keeps himself in really good nick.

“We’ll have to assess how he’s going and how the team is going obviously at the time, but at this point I have full faith in him being able to maintain his program and maintain his form and fitness in regards to the touch side of things.”
