Marty Mattner, Tommy Walsh and Trent Dennis-Lane have all been named in the Swans extended squad ahead of Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash with the West Coast Eagles.

The trio were part of the Swans 25-man squad which boarded the plane to Perth this afternoon, with the final Swans team set to be announced tomorrow afternoon at 4:30pm AEST.

Swans coach John Longmire said he expected Mattner, who was a late withdrawal from last week’s match against the Brisbane Lions with groin soreness, to pull up in time for the match.

“We’re hopeful that he gets through training and is able to play,” Longmire told sydneyswans.com.au.

Despite returning to the reserves last week, young midfielder Luke Parker will have to wait at least another week before returning to the senior side.

Longmire said the club is taking a cautious approach with the 19-year-old, who fractured his collarbone after a clash with Western Bulldogs captain Matthew Boyd in round 10.

“With our reserves side not playing this weekend it is not ideal for Luke, we thought that since he returned within four weeks from an injury that originally was expected to take six-to-eight weeks, we thought we’d give him some more time,” he said.

“He looked pretty good last week but we thought we’d like to give him some more training this week and another hard session on Saturday with the reserves players and hopefully that will keep pushing him forward in his preparations.”

With so many players like Parker pushing for a place in the senior team, Longmire said he was hopeful his players would take their chances when selected.

“You go through different phases during the year when you have a few injuries and we’ve done that and now we’re starting to get those players back,” he said.

“We do have a lot of good players who won’t be in the squad, but we’re hopeful that when they get their chance, a bit like what Nick Malceski did on the weekend, they grab their chance and play well.”

Longmire said the Swans would need to bring their best against the Eagles in front of their Perth home crowd this weekend.

“We just hope we play the sort of footy we want to play, which is really high pressure footy,” he said.

“We know we’ll have to play that for four quarters to be a chance of beating the Eagles in Perth.

“They’re a quality team anywhere, especially on their home deck, and we’ll need to be at our best to be competitive against them."
