The Sydney Swans reserves draw for 2012 has been finalised with today’s release of the North Eastern Australian Football League (NEAFL) fixture.
The Swans reserves will open the season against the UWS Giants - the reserves side of cross-town rivals GWS - in the curtain-raiser to the 2012 AFL season’s opening match between the two clubs at ANZ Stadium on March 24.
Following a week off, the reserves will host another AFL side, the Gold Coast Suns, as the lead-in to the senior’s game against Fremantle at the SCG on April 7.
Rounding out a tough month to start the season, the reserves travel to Canberra for the first time in round 4 to face Ainslie in a repeat of last season Eastern Conference Final.
Other highlights of the season include:
Round 6 - April 28
The Swans reserves travel to Darwin to face inaugural NEAFL premiers NT Thunder under lights at TIO Stadium.
Round 7 - May 5
The Swans reserves face new NEAFL side Sydney University at Blacktown.
Round 8 - May 12
The Swans again travel interstate, this time to face the Brisbane Lions reserves at Yeronga for the first of the season’s two meetings between the sides at this ground.
Round 18 - July 28
The reserves will look to erase the memories of their 2011 loss at Metricon Stadium as they face the Suns on the Gold Coast.
Round 19 - August 4
The reserves become the first Swans side to play at the new Skoda Stadium as they face the UWS Giants in a curtain-raiser to GWS’ game against Port Adelaide.
Round 20 - August 11
The Swans reserves will face new NEAFL side Sydney Hills Eagles - formerly the East Coast Eagles - at ANZ Stadium before the seniors’ traditional blockbuster against Collingwood.
